How I discovered locket diffuser necklaces.. and what it is?

When I first started learning about essential oils, the first thing that came to mind was: How do I actually use them?

Should I apply them directly to my skin whenever I feel like it? Do I need to mix them with anything like oil or cream? What are other ways to enjoy their scent without using an electronic diffuser?

I also wondered whether there was a way to wear essential oils while I was out. I knew I would smell lovely if I applied them to my body, but what if I wanted something more convenient?

While searching for ideas, I discovered something I had never heard of before: diffuser necklaces.

I was amazed by how many beautiful designs I saw online. Many featured a metal locket called a diffuser locket, which contains a small felt or cotton pad inside. The concept is wonderfully simple that you just open the magnetic locket, add a few drops of essential oil onto the felt pad, close the locket, and wear it as a necklace. So when you move throughout the day, the fragrance gently diffuses around you.

The idea immediately caught my attention.

It also reminded me of the traditional locket necklace I had when I was very young. My mum bought it for me during a family holiday in France, and I treasured it for years. That memory made me curious about the history of lockets, so I started doing some research.

I discovered that locket necklaces have a long history dating back to the 15th-17th centuries. Traditionally, they were made from precious metals and used to hold keepsakes such as miniature portraits, photographs, or locks of hair. They were often worn as symbols of love, remembrance, and personal connection.

Suddenly, I realised how clever diffuser lockets really are.

The small space inside the locket, which was once used to hold cherished memories, is now used to hold a felt pad that can absorb and slowly release essential oils. It is such a simple yet brilliant idea, combining beauty, history, and wellness in one piece of jewellery.

The more I learned about diffuser jewelry, the more inspired I became.

I quickly started sourcing smaller and cuter lockets to include in my own creations. Soon, my imagination was overflowing with ideas. I wanted to create unique designs by combining diffuser lockets with beautiful gemstones and crystals such as rose quartz, jade, and howlite.

It felt as though a door had suddenly opened in my creative mind.

What started as a simple question about how to use essential oils turned into an exciting journey of discovering diffuser jewelry and designing pieces that are both beautiful and meaningful. Every new design inspires me to explore more combinations of scents, crystals, colours, and styles.
